Marketing Intern

Tell me a little about yourself.

Some description

My name is Megan Thurow and I’m from the Chicagoland area. I’ll be a senior marketing major at Miami University in Ohio this fall. On campus, I’ve been heavily involved in Women in Business in addition Miami’s advertising organization, and my sorority. One of my favorite hobbies is traveling. I spent the past spring semester studying international business in Barcelona. On the weekends, I had the opportunity to travel all over Europe and I visited 14 countries and countless cities. I would also consider myself a gelato enthusiast and enjoy weekends spent on the lake!

What is your role as an intern at York?

I have spent this summer as a Marketing Intern for York at our office in Westchester, IL. I’ve had the opportunity to work on many exciting projects throughout the summer. My role has focused heavily on conducting a social media competitive analysis for both York Solutions and our Think IT Association, creating a social media marketing strategy, and implementing this strategy amongst all accounts, including Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. My role has also included brainstorming and writing blog posts, website updating and management, creating graphics and flyers, and tracking departmental analytics!

What do you enjoy most about your internship?

I’ve enjoyed the amount of trust my manager, York’s Marketing Director, Briana Perrino-Barrett has placed on me this summer.  When it came to managing our social accounts and creating content, I had a great deal of creative freedom! In addition, I’ve really appreciated the variety of projects I’ve gotten to work on. The culture at York is truly remarkable and the employees are what make the team phenomenal. York has a very collaborative and flexible environment, and I found it to be the perfect place to learn and grow as an intern throughout the summer.

What advice do you have for future interns?

Be a sponge and do more than expected. Contribute in ways outside of the scope of the role you’re given. This is your opportunity to learn and grow as much as you can. Mistakes are a part of the process and are essential in growing both as a professional and an individual. Lastly, stay motivated and enjoy every moment!
