This month, we’re featuring York employee Mike Kaliszewski, or just Kal for short. Since June 2013, he’s been hard at work splitting his responsibilities between York and Think IT as a Manager of Consulting Services and Community Manager. Keep reading to find out more about Mike’s dual-role and what motivates him to come to work every day!
1. Can you tell us a little bit about your role?
My role as a Manager of Consulting Services at York Solutions is simple: connect organizations with the right IT talent, as well as advise IT professionals on how to develop their experience to reach their career goals. Along with my role as Manager of Consulting Services, I am also a Community Manager for our association Think IT. Think IT is a professional development association for IT professionals, and through collaboration and networking, my goal is to connect individuals within the IT community to foster the transfer of knowledge and promote individual growth.
2. Where did you go to school?
I graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications & Journalism and a minor in Business Administration.
3. What drew you to York Solutions?
Frankly, I didn’t wear anything but sandals in college; however, our Managing Partner and CGO, Richard Walker, tried to bribe me to work at York with brightly-colored socks. Needless to say, it worked and I’m now a fan of colorful socks and York.
4. What has been your biggest accomplishment since working here?
Since working here at York and Think IT, the impact I’ve made on the lives of others through the efforts of our entire organization is what I consider to be the biggest accomplishment. The numerous success stories of how we have been able to become a true partner with our clients and consultants are more valuable to me than anything else.
5. Why do you like coming to work every day?
It’s really the people I work with. Rarely do you find an environment where you feel like you are a part of a family… even if that family is a little dysfunctional!
6. Who has influenced you the most, either professionally or personally?
This has always been a hard question for me to answer, because I believe that every person I’ve met has made some sort of an impact on who I am, both personally and professionally; however, I’ve always thought highly of my parents – Rick and Natalie.
7. How do you spend your time outside of the office?
Most of my time outside of the office is spent relaxing. I enjoy spending time with friends and, when weather permits, I love getting up to the cabin on Crosslake, lots of beautiful scenery and water.
