Each month, we like to share with you a little more about who makes up our amazing team. The ambitious and witty Tyler Martin, Manager of Consulting Services at York, has worked his way up through the ranks, and we’re excited to share his story with you!
Can you tell us a little bit about your role?
My title is Manager of Consulting Services/Delivery Manager. I am responsible for the relationship management, internal communication operations, and consultant relations management for one of our clients. My role also includes coordinating the delivery process, interviews, client discussions, onboarding/offboarding process, etc.
Where did you go to school?
I graduated from Saint John’s University with a Bachelor’s degree in secondary education. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University and will be graduating in November.
What drew you to York Solutions?
After seeing a job posting online, I decided to check out the website. I watched a few “about us” videos and I knew that York’s culture was one that I would feel at home in. I think I spent half of my initial interview laughing and cracking jokes with my soon to be manager, Andrew Turner. I knew when I walked out of that office that this was the place for me.
What has been your biggest accomplishment since working here?
I feel a sense of accomplishment anytime I can help connect a person with their next professional assignment.
On a smaller scale, I would have to say that being on the winning team of last year’s York Flag Football Game is the highlight of my first several years at York. We were down by 4 touchdowns before we scored the next 5 unanswered to win the game! Some ESPN analysts believe that our comeback gave the Patriots the inspiration they needed to mount their 28-3 comeback in the Super Bowl last year. You’re welcome Patriots!
Why do you like coming to work every day?
Too easy of a question: It’s the people I work with and the culture that York has created. It didn’t take long for my colleagues to feel more like my friends and family. Between the surprise baby shower that my colleagues through for my wife and I in our office, and the overwhelming support I felt from everyone in the office when my grandfather passed away, York has shown that they truly care about both my professional and personal life. It’s easy coming to work when you are surrounded by people that care about you.
Who has influenced you the most, either professionally or personally?
My wife, Aria Martin. She has more personal and professional drive than anyone I have ever met. She is currently pursuing her DNP (Doctorate in Nursing Practice), while doing the most incredible job of raising our one year old daughter AND taking care of our second child that is on the way! Simply put… she is amazing!
How do you spend your time outside of the office?
My free time is spent with my wife and daughter, and usually involves dance parties around the house or nature walks along the Mississippi River Trail.
Do you have a hidden talent or something interesting that most people do not know about you?
Most people within our Minnesota office already know this, but I consider myself an incredible speed walker. Some might even go as far as saying I am the goat (greatest of all time) at speed walking.
What is your favorite quote or what motivates you?
My family is my biggest motivation. They are constantly motivating me to be a better version of myself, whether they know it or not.
Do you have any book suggestions/professional development/any professional advice you would tell yourself 5 years ago?
I think I would let everything play out exactly how it has. There are books I could have read and professional wisdom I could provide to my younger self, but I am a big believer in things happening for a reason and learning from mistakes. I would probably just tell myself something cheesy like “enjoy the ride, kid.”
