Tell me a little bit about yourself.

Some description

My name is Christopher Rulau, I’m going to be a senior at the University of Minnesota. I am majoring in Business and Marketing Education, and minoring in Management. Over my 3 years at the U, I’ve been involved in the club lacrosse team, ski and snowboard club, sales team, operation smile, and The Center for Sales Leadership + Education. Some of my favorite things to do are traveling out West and being a part of the ski and snowboard club. I hope to travel to The Gorge in Washington as my next stop in thenear future. Lastly, a fun fact about myself is I am a dog over cat guy.

What is your role as an intern at York?

My role at York’s Minnesota office is as an Inside Sales Intern doing advanced sourcing, so I get hands-on experience learning about all types of positions in the IT field. Then I find people to get in contact with that would be a good fit for the position. It has helped me grow significantly with comfortability over the phone and talking about touchy or difficult subjects. I also get to sit-in on outside sales meetings with some extremely high-level individuals at various companies around the Twin Cities, from small local businesses to international brands. The fact that I can create these connections as an aspiring young professional is invaluable at this point in my career.

What do you enjoy most about your internship?

I enjoy countless things about this internship, but I will highlight three. First, the fact that I have an internship where I make an impact and difference in my company’s and coworkers’ lives. I often hear about people having internships where they didn’t feel as though they did something impactful for the company, and I haven’t felt that for a second here at York. My work and performance directly impacts my coworkers and York, as it generates sales and opportunities. Next, I am making “warm” calls. The majority of people I call are looking for a job, so they’re open to hearing me out and talking. Lastly, something that Andrew Knutson really helped put into perspective for me is that we are helping people in their respective careers. Thinking about how amazing it feels to get that exciting new job, or make that next career step makes me really enjoy what I’ve done as an intern.

What advice do you have for future interns?

York Solutions is special because of the culture it is built on. The openness and transparency of everyone at the company is unique because it provides the opportunity to learn and meet anyone here. From the CEO, to my fellow interns, I’ve had opportunities to talk with everyone in-between. My advice is built on this, jump in with two feet and meet everyone you can in this company. Everyone at York has an amazing story and great advice to give on the mistakes they’ve made, along with the successes they’ve had.
