York Solutions Co-Sponsored Second Annual Veteran Career Summit

We were honored to co-sponsor the second annual Veteran Career Summit alongside Exegistics and the ICATT Apprenticeship Program. This years’ summit focused on the value of developing a workplace initiative to recruit and retain veteran employees.

As a veteran-owned business, certified by the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC), York Solutions is dedicated to helping companies close the skills gap by integrating veterans into the civilian workforce. “Being a VOB helps us deliver on our own veteran hiring initiative,” says Brandi Will, SVP, Strategic Partnerships & Veteran Programs at York Solutions. “This is an authentic commitment for us and working with veterans has always been a priority for York Solutions.”

During the summit, Will moderated the panel, Understand Why and How to Hire a VOSB/VOB. Together with Stephen Olds, Founder/CEO of Exegistics and Jeff King, Operations and Compliance Manager at NVBDC, the panel discussed the importance of a veteran owned business certification.

“We’re a certified Veteran owned business to build awareness. It’s important to our culture to walk the talk,” said Stephen Olds.

Silvia Hinton, VP, Program Development – Barriers to Entry (B2E) talked about York Solutions’ nationally recognized returnship program, Barriers to Entry, on the panel, Innovative Programs to Find, Hire, Train, and Manage a Veteran Workforce.

“Veterans possess specific traits that are major assets to the workforce – proficient team players, dedicated workers, calm when under pressure and entrenched loyalty are just a few examples,” said Hinton. “We look for applicants who have the aptitude, attitude and resilience.”

York Solutions created the Barriers to Entry program as a way to help companies fill essential IT roles, while improving company diversity and offering employment to people re-entering the workforce. The B2E program offers paid training to veterans, caregivers, and stay-at-home parents who have the desire and drive to start careers in IT, but not necessarily the opportunity.
